Reflection:

Honestly, while reflecting back on my work this semester, I’ve noticed a few things, one of those being that composition doesn’t just mean writing. I really noticed this in part 2 when I did the site visit of Bingo in the Park. There was no way I could’ve explained what Bingo in the Park truely is just through words, so instead I took a video of what the park itself looked like. The sound in the background made it real and showed how chaotic it really is. Same goes for the interviews that I did with two of our friends that go to Bingo in the Park. They weren’t perfect, they didn’t really answer the questions I asked them before recording, but that’s what makes it so much more personal and real. Both of these ways, the video and the voice recording, shows just as much, if not more (in this case), than writing does and part 2 really helped me understand that. Secondly, I noticed how much writing really is recursive, which showed in my free writes. When we were told to end in the middle of a sentence in case we were to come back to it, everytime I came back to a free write, not only did I keep adding to it but I revised what I had previously worked on. From there I would look up random stuff to help me come up with a new topic which then led to me creating a different type of composition, it really never did end, I always found something new or something to fix. Finally, I noticed how much of a difference my writing was when I accepted that I wasn’t writing for Mat. I had a specific audience, either myself or whoever I was directing it towards, which wasn’t always towards a professor. Once I truly understood that, my writing was so much more genuine and fitted the specific audience I was speaking towards perfectly.

Overall, I think I got more from this class than I thought I would. I’m proud of my work as well as I think I put in a lot of effort into this class. I enjoyed the freedom we had which ultimately took off a lot of pressure and made the class more enjoyable.
