Sia
Australian singer and songwriter
Famous for masking her face in public settings with her hair
She started covering her face in early 2014 (keep a sense of mystery, privacy) defending herself against the ‘dark side of fame’, wrote an op-ed for billboard "If anyone besides famous people knew what it was like to be a famous person, they would never want to be famous"
Maddie
She was the star on the reality tv show dance moms
Once sia asked her to be in her music video maddie gained a lot of publicity
Music video
It’s about sia's past addiction and alcoholism
At first i didn’t realize it but once you listen to the lyrics it becomes very clear
Her cycle and how she couldn’t really escape it
Party girl vibe at night and then her regret and guilt in the morning

First thoughts
Dramatic untraditional movements and dances and facial expression
Very bold
Static movements
Neutral colors - skin tone leotard
Use of sia’s wig
What it teaches us about composition:
Speaker - (not seeing sia herself (the actual singer) sing her own song) (even though sia is known for not being seen - she still is not showing her own emotion through her video rather its maddie) (using someone or something else to express your feelings in a way you cannot)
Scene/environment (setting the scene) setting
First gives an overview of each room (2 rooms and a hallway) (which is less rooms than maddies danced in) (leaving you to want more not by showing you the whole apartment)
Then while maddie is dancing it there’s a scene
how it represents sias life
Facial expressions
Never stops moving instead of the beginning and end (full circle)
Beginning with a glimpse of your setting/environment and gradually (throughout your composition) maneuver through each scene or story from the beginning while adding more scenes
This type of composition leads the audience wanting more (the hook)
Close ups vs. big pictures
Close ups - details emotions facial expressions you can see the paint/writing on her hands
Even with the scenes - an overview in the beginning of the video and then a close up/a dance event in each room
Is when you switch from detailed small intricate movements or scenes (close ups) and then zoom out and focus on the larger more dramatic movement or scenes

3 minutes to choose either three compositions and ponder
Speaker - expressing ways that i cant - painting - horrible painter so i would probably have someone paint a picture but have it very personal and add my own twist but it’s shown through someone else's work —- about my childhood house
